''Bubbles and Balls 2009: tennis in comic strips''

Popular genre, reflection of how a sporting discipline has developed or witness to the aspirations of an era, "tennis in comic strips" is a narrative adventure in its own right.

From the frontiers of the fixed image to the confines of the animated cartoon, the "Bubbles and Balls" exhibition, in partnership with the Belgian Comic Strip Centre, pays tribute to this original approach.

From the frontiers of the fixed image to the confines of the animated cartoon, the "Bubbles and Balls" exhibition, in partnership with the Belgian Comic Strip Centre, pays tribute to this original approach:

-  Starting on 10 June, tennis takes to the comic strip at the Roland-Garros Museum. From the history of tennis to the rules of the game, from training to epic tales of the great champions, speech bubbles and tennis balls, white or yellow, bounce back and forth.

-  "Counterpoints" highlight the place occupied by tennis in French and Belgian comic strips but equally present in both US comic strips and Japanese manga. From Raymond Reding to Will Eisner, from Charles Schulz to Takeshi Konomi, the artwork of the masters of “comic strip tennis" is now on display at Roland-Garros.

- A series of special "spaces" also hold surprises for the visitor, including a "drawing board", instrument of torture for illustrators, where a drawing comes to life before our very eyes through the magic of projection; part of the world of the club-house  from "Rendez-vous de Sevenoaks", acting as a backdrop for interviews with Floc’h and Rivière; another space where illustrator André Chéret, celebrating the 40th anniversary of his character "Rahan", relates the unusual experiment that produced the player biography "Il était une fois… Yannick Noah", first published 25 years ago; and yet another space set aside for readers to devour all the "tennis in comic strips" albums their hearts could desire.

- Finally, choose one of 16 comic strip characters, from Babar to Spiderman, to take part on your behalf in a vast "Tournament of Heroes".

Original pages from the four corners of the globe are displayed at strategic points around the exhibition, opening visitors' eyes to an incredible variety of graphic interpretations of the game of tennis.  Meetings and author signing sessions add the finishing touches to make "Bubbles and Balls 2009" an exhibition not to be missed under any circumstances.
